time to say good-bye (lyn)

I'm talking to M the other day and she rightly points out that (a) the blog is no longer about two friends, and (b) the one friend it is about (me) is no longer on a diet. It's become difficult to stay on topic, and I find myself gravitating to topics that are unrelated to the theme of this blog. As hard as I try, it is difficult to find any relationship to eating well and having a problem with Verizon.

Reluctantly I've decided that it's time to sign off. I may start another blog themed something like, The New York Diarist, and that way I am not limited in the topics I write about. If you are interested, please write to me at lynj@me.com and I will let you know when and if I start writing again.

It's been a cathartic experience, and with your support, I achieved my goal of losing 40 pounds. I will miss the discipline of writing almost every day, but I think I need to direct my discipline into other areas, at least for a while. I don't want to be a chronicler of life, I want to live it.

Alexander came home from school yesterday and his stuff is now all over my apartment. While I could do without the empty water bottles in the living room, and the dishes in the sink, I love having him back. I already have a list of things I want to do with him, and hope that he'll agree to at least a few of them.

I intend to stay small in my frame, and hope to become bigger in my experiences. Thank you for being with me through an exciting ride. It's time to move on.

  3. Hi Lyn. I just read your last blog entry and I'm not surprised that you have decided to stop that blog because "two friends and a diet" just doesn't describe the contents of it any more. I hope you decide to eventually do another blog because your observations on New York life are so interesting and for me it is a peek into another world.

It's not that I haven't been to NY countless times and traveled to many places but every day life there is so different, at least every day upper East Side Manhattan life is. Also, it is a way for me to keep up with you.

I have some errands to do and I'm looking forward to buying some steak. I got a kick out of reading in your blog that you were anxious to use your new chef's knife to slice tomatos. Well, I just got new steak knives delivered yesterday and I'm anxious to try them out.

  4. Say it isn't so....

Hi. Of all the days to catch up on your blog, today you post "The End."

Let me back up. A few minutes ago my brother, Stephen, called. He was talking about going to the Cape for a few days and I suggested he see your folks. (He would have gone anyhow.) I offered to check your web site to read how your father was feeling because I remembered he wasn't doing great a few months ago.

Then I saw you were signing off. Day is done.

I enjoyed the mishagas, learned a little about NYC, got to meet you, learned a few fashion tips, and stayed in touch (though a little one sided) with your sisters. Once in a while I told my brother the news from Hewlett and told Larry W that I was in touch with Jean, sort of. I recall you saying how odd it was that I knew much about you but you had no clue about me and other readers. I'm thinking about that still. We owe you lots of stories!

And I owe you lots of thanks. My divorce was slow and painful. Many evenings I was home alone and you entertained me with your quips, tips, and doings in the Big Apple. You helped get me through.

    Thanks again.

  5. Hi Lyn,

We've never met...yet I feel like I know you so well. I was Michele's assistant when she was in California and working at Callaway Golf. Michele told me about your blog and I've been following it ever since. I am a single parent with a son who is a Jr. in high school (at a private school here in San Diego). I've struggled with my weight always...tried Weight Watchers (and every other "plan" on earth). One day I'll be successful...of that I'm certain.

It has been so much fun reading all your blog entries. It's a part of my morning routine -- coffee and "Oh, did Lyn or M write anything? (I've missed her!!). Please let me know if you start writing again...I'll be the first to start following the new blog.

All the best to you. If you ever have the chance to come out to San Diego, please let me know. I'd love to meet you in person.

    All the best,

    Carol S
