beach debut (lyn)

Picture perfect day.  Cloudless sky.  Sunny.  Mid-seventies.  Gentle breeze.  I’m even able to convince Alexander to come with me to the beach.  Around two, we arrive.  It’s mid-week in mid-June and the beach is empty.  Just a handful of sunbathers.

I see Lois, someone I know from my many years of coming here, so I go over to say hi.  After a few minutes of how-was-your-year, Lois looks at me and says, “Did you lose a lot of weight?”  I try to be non-chalent and answer that yes, I have.  She then asks, somewhat tentatively, “Did it just happen or were you trying?”  Did she think I’d been sick?  “No, I lost the weight on purpose,” I say.  “Oh,” she replies. “You look emaciated.”

Nice.
