two friends and a diet

Our blog is for anyone who is on a diet, has ever been on a diet, or is thinking of going on a diet. We are two good friends who live in different cities: Weston, MA (right outside Boston) and NYC. Together, we have decided to go on a diet for one year. But more than food, dieting raises issues about self-image, family, control, etc. It is our hope that writing about it will make us do it, and in the process of getting thinner, maybe learn a thing or two about ourselves and each other.

apparition? (m)

In November of 2009, a Massachusetts woman named Mary Jo Coady called the media to inform them that she saw the image of Jesus in the brown residue of her daughter's iron. She was on television and in newspapers.

She believed Jesus "appeared" to her to help her through troubled times.

Today, I was chopping celery and lopped off the whole bottom part where the celery stalks are joined together. I looked at the inside of that bottom cluster and noticed something I've never noticed before: that part of the celery looks like a pretty flower.

Now I ask you, did the celery present itself as a flower to help me get through this diet by making me think it is a thing of beauty?
